How it all began…
To tell my story, let me give you a little background about myself. In the early 80’s I starting my first offline advertising company located in San Diego, CA. A customer turned friend, had sold his business for millions. Rather than pay Uncle Sam a small fortune in income taxes, he decided to take his profits and shift them to another business. Since we both had a passion for technology, he approached me and asked if I’d be interested in starting a web design and web hosting company – one of the first in the World.
We both loved computers so the decision was made to give it a try. The company was known as LaunchSite.com. My job as President was simple – to sell businesses on allowing us to create and host their web site. At the time however, we quickly discovered a very small problem – no one knew what the Internet was let alone the reason why they should have this thing called a web site.
To say that my job was difficult was an understatement. More time was being spend explaining what the Internet was than selling site design and hosting.
I gave my business partner a commitment of one year, with the understanding that we both would give it our all. If things didn’t work out as planned, we would then shake hands and walk away.
A year later, that unfortunate day came and LaunchSite was dissolved. One thing I learned from my experience is that if you did have a web site, it was vital to be found on the search engines of the day. Most of those search engines have long since come and gone.
During a brief hiatus, I decided to write a book on the subject, including all the information I had amassed and that is how PromoteOne came to be.
Founded in 1990 PromoteOne was originally formed to promote and sell my book titled “The Step By Step Guide To Successfully Promoting A Web Site” (aka – “The Guide”). One of the first books ever written on the subject of Internet Marketing and SEO.
As the Internet start to grow, my book quickly became outdated. It became very clear that every online business has it’s own unique needs. Rather than produce another book on the subject of Internet Marketing, PromoteOne turned to a more specific approach by offering one-on-one consulting services to my clients.
Revered by many as the father of Internet Marketing, I’ve lectured and have consulted to thousands of customers. From giants such as Microsoft, Yahoo, Cisco to individuals just starting out.
What I now bring to the table is close to 30 years of experience on how to successfully promote your business and how to achieve your online business goals.
Who gains the most from my consulting services?
Believe it or not, it’s a company who is just starting out. The reason I say this is that too often I’m asked to assist a company who has already traveled down the wrong path. While that’s not to say that things can’t be turned around, the saying of “doing it right the first time” does have its merits.
How is my consulting is performed?
Most of my consulting is done via phone calls or screen sharing if necessary. It some cases I’ve been asked to meet in person although that is based on my availability. During our initial call I’ll ask some very important questions which most often requires speaking to your CEO, CTO or head of online marketing. I use this initial call to gauge where you are, what you need and what you can expect from using my consulting services.
How do I bill for my services?
I offer a free 15 minute consultation which allows me to gauge whether or not I can help you. After that my consulting rates are billed at $150 per hour. You’ll also have the option to retain my services on a weekly or monthly basis depending on my current work load. My time is very valuable and so is yours, so if you’re thinking of engaging me for consulting services, I ask that you be prepared to take a lot of notes.
Once last thing you should know about me is that I don’t mince words. My approach to helping others is clear, it’s simply to see you succeed and to help you meet your online business goals. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Realtor selling million dollar homes, a new startup with millions in start up capital or a guy in Canada selling blue t-shirts with pockets – every online business has one thing in common and that is making sure you’re found appropriately and equally important, that you know how to turn your visitors in to sales.
If you’re looking for my assistance, please stay clear of any new site development or marketing decisions until we’ve had a chance to speak.
