In a nut shell, these are some of the most sought after questions to anyone with a web presence. Look, let’s get something clear and out of the way now. Fact… you could have the greatest looking web site in the world, you could offer the best products and services but all of that is a moot point if no one can find you. The reality is that you and me and 99% of all Internet users worldwide, will use one of the major search engines to find what we’re looking for, Google being by far the most popular.
The answer to “How do I get found at the top of Google?” is easier that most people think, but to make the changes necessary to even coming close to making it happen, requires a clear understanding of how Google and other search engines work. As I mention in my book, imagine trying to be a major league baseball player without knowing or even understanding the rules of the game. Clearly it won’t happen.
No one is born understanding how the Internet works. Sure you may have heard of the terms IP address, web page, DNS, meta tags or domain names, but how many of you truly understand what they are, how they work and most important, how your understanding of the Internet plays in the role of your web site getting found properly.

It depends on a lot of factors. For one, you need to understand what Google looks for. There are so many variables that it would be impossible to list them all here. That is exactly why this book was written. It’s important to note however that trying to be found under the term “pneumatic shock absorbers” is completely different from trying to be found under the term “adult sex toys”.
As a Google engineer once said to me …
“Getting found number one in Google under a natural search result, in some cases, is not even something I can do. Our algorithms and heuristics are so complex and sophisticated that not even someone who created these algorithms could say one way or another why one web site will rank higher over another. There are so many variables that no one can guarantee a natural number one position for a specific keyword or keyword phrase. However understanding what Google looks for and keeping it simple will almost always yield the results a web site owner is looking for.”
